PitPedal was built for one reason: to help sim racers and flight sim enthusiasts spend their money on gear that actually earns its place in the cockpit. We test rigs, wheels, pedals, seats, and flight sim hardware the way you'd use them – bolted together, under load, after long sessions – not just unboxed and photographed.

How PitPedal Started

PitPedal began in a cramped home office that slowly turned into a two-car garage full of rigs, wheelbases, and cable management nightmares. The site's founder, a longtime sim racer and amateur flight sim builder, kept running into the same problem: review sites either copied manufacturer spec sheets or offered opinions after a single afternoon with a product. Neither helped when deciding whether to spend several hundred dollars on a direct drive wheel or a motion-ready cockpit frame. So PitPedal was started as a small, independent project with a simple rule – buy or source the product, build it like a real user would, and live with it for weeks before writing a word. What started as a personal notebook of build logs and torque settings turned into a public resource, and eventually into a small team of contributors who share the same obsession with getting the details right.

How We Review and Select Products

Every product that appears on PitPedal goes through the same process, regardless of brand size or marketing budget:

  • Hands-on testing: We install and run each cockpit, wheelbase, pedal set, or flight sim accessory in real setups, across multiple sims (iRacing, Assetto Corsa Competizione, MSFS, DCS, and others) to see how it performs outside a demo booth.
  • Build quality assessment: We check materials, welds, frame flex, cable routing, and long-term durability concerns – not just how a product feels on day one.
  • Compatibility checks: We verify fitment with common wheelbases, monitor mounts, pedal upgrades, and VR headsets, since compatibility issues are one of the biggest regrets buyers report.
  • Value comparison: We compare each product against others in its price bracket, not just against flagship competitors, so recommendations stay realistic for different budgets.
  • Ongoing use: Where possible, we revisit products after months of use to update reviews if something breaks down, loosens, or ages poorly.

We do not accept payment in exchange for favorable reviews, and any product provided by a manufacturer for testing is clearly disclosed. If a product underperforms, we say so – even if that means a popular or heavily advertised item gets a lukewarm recommendation.

What Makes PitPedal Trustworthy

PitPedal is run by people who actually race and fly in their spare time, not by a content farm assigning topics to writers with no interest in the hobby. Our recommendations are shaped by real builds, real frustrations with bad ergonomics, and real appreciation for hardware that simply works session after session. We update older reviews when new versions of products launch, correct mistakes when readers point them out, and avoid vague superlatives in favor of specific, checkable details – measurements, weight limits, noise levels, and setup time.

Our goal is simple: when you're deciding between two pedal sets or trying to figure out if a budget cockpit frame can handle a direct drive wheel, PitPedal should feel like advice from a friend who already made the mistakes so you don't have to.
